Orientation Walking Tour of Venice  – The group will become oriented with their “sestiere” (Venetian neighbourhood), the public transportation system, nearby pharmacies, markets, ATMs, etc. The association will introduce the group to the issue of over-tourism and explain the basic to-dos and not-to-dos in the city.

day 4 / VENICE

Breakfast & Day Briefing

Venice Walking Tour – The places of power of the Venetian Republic: Piazza San Marco, Palazzo Ducale e Basilica, Mercerie, Rialto’s market. 

Lunch Break

Ghetto Walking Tour – Visit of the Venetian Jewish Ghetto – The English word “ghetto” is derived from the Jewish ghetto in Venice. Visit to the Venetian Jewish Museum.

Venetian Dinner - The group will be taken for a delicious Venetian dinner with a wide variety of menu options to cater all diets

day 5 / VENICE

Breakfast & Day Briefing

Trip to Murano, Burano and Mazzorbo – Departure with the Vaporetto (Venetian “bus”) from Fondamenta Nove: visit to a glass production site and discover life in the Venetian lagoon.

day 6 / BUJE

Breakfast & Day Briefing

Transfer to Piran (approx. 3 hours)

Lunch Break 

Piran Walking Tour – Introduction to the Stato da Mar (former maritime territories of the Republic of Venice). Visit to Piazza Tartini, Benečanka, maritime museum, and Nika's Tiny House. Encounter with a local historian. 

Free Time

Transfer to Buje ( approx. 30 minutes)

Day Trip Draga Valley
Dvigrad/Duecastelli - Learn about the  history of Istria at the time of the Republic of Venice. Visit to the ghost town of Dvigrad

Rovinj/Rovigno –  Stroll around the beautiful city of Rovinj. Encounter with a representative of the local “Ecomuseum Batana”.  

Group Lunch at Spačio Matika 

Poreč/Parenzo – Visit to the Basilica, UNESCO heritage. A quick look at the relations between Venice and the Byzantine Empire.

day 8 / ZADAR

Breakfast & Day Briefing 

Transfer to Zadar (Approx. 4 hours)Introduction to the former capital of the Venetian Stato da Mar. On the way there, we cross the territory of Rijeka/Fiume (former Habsburg Empire).

Lunch Break

Zadar Walking Tour – A guided tour of the Old Town with a local researcher. The history of the Venetian conquest of Zadar, visit to the Venetian fortresses, the arsenal, Callelarga. Testing the guidebook’s Dalmatian dictionary and tasting local (Venetian) recipes.

day 9 / DUBROVNIK

Breakfast & Day Briefing 

Transfer to Šibenik (approx. 1,5 hours) 

Šibenik Fortress – Visit to the Venetian fortresses and encounter with a local historian of the organization Fortress of Culture – an excellent example of (re)use of cultural heritage.

Lunch Break 

Arrival in Dubrovnik (approx. 3,5 hours)

Walking Tour of Dubrovnik – City walls, Rectors’ Palace, Synagogue, Ethnographic museum and Lazaret.

Pelješac Peninsula – Wine degustation in the Pelješac peninsula. This region was historically ruled by the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik), rival of Venice. The walls of Ston and the geopolitics around the city of Neum are a legacy of that period.
