Itinerary
Day 1 – Departure
- Depart Home for Madrid, Spain
Day 2 – Madrid
- Arrive in Madrid, Spain
- Airport Transfer – Check In, Relax & Refresh
- Orientation Walking Tour – The group will become oriented with their neighborhood, the public transportation systems, nearby pharmacies, markets, ATMs, etc. Additionally, an in-depth orientation will be provided covering health, safety and what to do in case of an emergency.Â
- Barrio de las Letras Walking Tour – Immerse yourself in Spanish literary history is Madrid’s literary quarter, a hub of talent during Spain’s Golden Age attracting big names such as Miguel de Cervantes (the author of Don Quixote) and poet Francisco de Quevedo. One of the main squares in the Barrio de Las Letras, Plaza Santa Ana, is home to a statue of Spanish playwright and poet Federico GarcÃa Lorca, known for his works including Blood Wedding and The House of Bernarda Alba. He was murdered, aged 38, by the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War and his body has never been found.

- Royal Palace – Home to the Kings of Spain from Charles III to Alfonso XIII, Madrid’s Royal Palace takes us on a journey through the history of Spain.
Day 4 – Madrid
- Breakfast & Day Briefing
- Prado Museum – The Prado Museum (Museo del Prado) houses one of the finest art collections in the world, specializing in European art from the 12th to 19th centuries. Thousands of European paintings, sculptures, and other works of art are on display throughout its halls, and they represent merely a fraction of the total collection. Highlights include works by Francisco Goya, Diego Velázquez, and El Greco.
- Lope de Vega Museum – The Lope de Vega House Museum, on Calle Cervantes, was built in the sixteenth century and purchased by the great writer of the Spanish Golden Age in 1610.
- Lunch Time
- Retiro Park & Palacio de Cristal – The Glass Palace in the Retiro Park is one of the finest examples of iron architecture in Madrid. The metal and glass structure was built in 1887 for the Philippines Exhibition of that year. Designed by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, the project was inspired by Paxton’s Crystal Palace.
Day 5 – Madrid

- Biblioteca Nacional de España – The Biblioteca Nacional de España (National Library of Spain) is a major public library, the largest in Spain, and one of the largest in the world.

- Teatro Español Tour and Performance – In 1934 Lorca’s Yerma made its debut at this theatre, previously known as Corral del PrÃncipe, which since 1583 has staged successful productions of works by Lope de Vega, MoratÃn and Alberti. In 1964 it hosted a production of Zorrilla’s Don Juan Tenorio featuring set designs by DalÃ, which has since become the stuff of legends. Guided tours of the inside are held in the morning from Tuesday to Friday.
Day 6 – Madrid

- Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofÃa – The Reina Sofia Museum is Madrid’s premier modern art gallery featuring mostly works by Spanish artists. Among them is Guernica, a political statement on the Spanish Civil War by Pablo Picasso, as well as a room devoted to Joan Miró’s paintings and a collection of about 20 Salvador Dalà pieces.

- Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum – The museum offers students an overview of art from the 13th century to the late 20th century.
Day 7 – Barcelona

- Historical & Cultural Walking Tour of Barri Gòtic – The beautiful neighbourhood known as the Gothic Quarter is so called because it used to be the Roman village and thus has some remnants of its glorious past.
Day 8 – Barcelona

- Sagrada Familia – A UNESCO World Heritage site and Antoni Gaudi’s magnum opus, is undoubtedly the most iconic structure in Barcelona (and the most popular, with nearly 3 million visitors per year).Â
- Ana Maria Matute’s Barcelona – This walk will take you past landmarks and sights that influenced Matute’s writings.
Day 9 – Barcelona
- Breakfast & Day Briefing
- Parc Guell – Park Guell is one of the masterpieces of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, who projected it in 1900. Inaugurated as a public park in 1926, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, recognizing its patrimonial and cultural value as a symbol of modern architecture, being one of the biggest exponents of Gaudi’s modernism.

- Explore Las Ramblas Neighbourhood – Stroll along Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s most colorful and interesting street. This pedestrian mall extends almost a full mile and is lined with shops, cafés, and markets.
