Itinerary

Day 1 – Departure

  • Depart Home for Tokyo, Japan

Day 2 – Tokyo

  • Arrive in Tokyo, Japan
  • Airport Transfer – Check-in, Relax & Refresh
  • Orientation Walking Tour – The group will become oriented with their neighborhood, the public transportation systems, nearby pharmacies, markets, ATMs, etc.

Day 3 – Tokyo

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Senso-ji Shrine – It is the oldest Buddhist temple in the capital, with a five-story pagoda, trails of incense and vast eaves will take you back to a Tokyo of time gone by.
  • Lunch Break
  • Historical & Cultural Tour of Tokyo – Imperial Palace, Yasukuni Shrine, Metropolitan Government Building and more…
  • Explore Roppongi Area
  • Franciscan Chapel Center

Day 4 – Saitama

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Train to Chichibu, Saitama (approx. 2 hours)
  • Taiyoji Temple – Called “shukubo” in Japanese, temple lodging is a term for places offering both monks and general worshipers a place to stay. This historic practice has carried over into these modern times and the majority of shukubo places welcome international visitors with open arms.
  • Overnight at Zen Buddhist Temple

Day 5 – Tokyo

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Return to Tokyo (approx. 2 hours)
  • Meiji Shinto Shrine – Surrounded by a lush green forest right in the heart of Tokyo , this Shinto grand shrine is dedicated to Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) and Empress Shoken, modern Japan’s first emperor and empress.
  • Explore Shinjuku Area
  • Tokyo Lutheran Church – The mission of our English Ministry at Tokyo Lutheran is, through English, to offer worship and spiritual care to those who are searching for it, to grow faith through Christian education.
  • Sekiguchi Church – The original Sekiguchi Catholic Church was a wooden structure in the Gothic style, built in 1899 but destroyed during the air raids of World War II in 1945. The church that stands today was designed by Kenzo Tange from 1960 to 1964, assisted by acoustic and structural engineers from the University of Tokyo.

Day 6 – Kyoto

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Bullet Train to Kyoto (approx. 3.5 hours)
  • Check-in & Refresh – Orientation Walking Tour
  • Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) – Kinkakuji is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Each floor represents a different style of architecture.
  • Kiyomizudera Temple – Kiyomizudera is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto, and derives its name from the fall’s pure waters.

Day 7 – Kyoto

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Kawaramachi Catholic Church – The Kawaramachi Church is also called “St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.” St. Francis Xavier, one of the missionaries who first introduced Christianity to Japan is the patron saint of the church.
  • Lunch Break
  • Tea Ceremony at Hayami Ryu Tea School – Kyoto was where the tea ceremony was born and remains its spiritual heart. This special ceremony provides an unforgettable opportunity to learn the Japanese art of tea!
  • Gion District – At the heart of Kyoto is Gion, the city’s most famous entertainment district and the center of its traditional arts.

Day 8 – Hakone

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Train to Hakone (approx. 4 hours)
  • Check-in, Relax & Refresh
  • Hakone Nature Walk – Explore Japan’s vast and stunning nature.
  • Overnight at Hotel with Onsen

Day 9 – Tokyo

  • Return Train to Tokyo (approx. 3.5 hours)
