Japan is an island country where ancient traditions and modern culture fantastically collide to result in one of the most unique eastern societies in the world.
Exploring Japan means being immersed in centuries worth of ancient traditions and customs that are oftentimes still practiced today. You will visit the most beautiful and infamous shrines, temples, castles and explore Japanese traditions, while learning more about its rich history and the leading religion of Buddhism.
In our 9 day Asian Humanities program, travelers will take part in a variety of cultural activities, including a traditional tea ceremony and Japanese cooking classes. Travelers can dive into both the ancient past as well as recent history.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Kyoto

  • Meet the Group at Hotel
  • Orientation Walking Tour – The group will become oriented with their neighborhood, the public transportation systems, nearby pharmacies, markets, ATMs, etc.
  • Kyoto Welcome Dinner – Kyoto is also famed for its tofu and its distinctive locally grown vegetables. The group will be taken for an authentic dinner with a variety of menu options to cater all diets.

Day 2 – Kyoto

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing Historical & Cultural Tour of Kyoto – Golden Pavilion, Gion District, Traditional Kimono Show and more…
  • Lunch Break
  • Tea Ceremony – Kyoto was where the tea ceremony was born and remains its spiritual heart. This special ceremony provides an unforgettable opportunity to learn the Japanese art of tea!

Day 3 – Kyoto

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing 
  • UNESCO WH Nijo Castle – One of Kyoto’s most popular and impressive sights. It shows the power that the Shoguns wielded over the emperors throughout the Edo Period.
  • Lunch Break
  • Bamboo Forest – The iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto is one of the most beautiful and serene places in Japan.

Day 4 – Nara

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Day Trip to Nara
  • Todaiji Temple – a World Heritage temple in Nara Park famous for its Great Buddha. The temple is one of the world’s largest wooden structures.
  • Kasuga Taisha – Kasuga Taisha is Nara’s most celebrated shrine. It was established at the same time as the capital and is dedicated to the deity responsible for the protection of the city.
  • Return to Kyoto

Day 5 – Tokyo

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing Bullet Train to Tokyo (approx. 3.5 hours)
  • Drop Bags & Orientation
  • Walking Tour Historical & Cultural Tour of Tokyo – Imperial Palace, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Metropolitan Government Building, Meiji Shinto Shrine and more…Structured Free Time & Cultural Immersion

Day 6 – Tokyo

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing 
  • Tokyo National Museum – This famous museum houses the largest collection of Japanese artifacts and artworks in the world. With over 100,000 pieces and room to display only 4,000, exhibits are rotated constantly.
  • Ueno Park & Asakusa Walking Tour
  • Senso-ji Shrine – experience the story of the oldest temple in Tokyo, and the people of Japan.

Day 7 – Tokyo

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • University of Tokyo Visit – Guided tour by local students.
  • Lunch Break at Tokyo University
  • Edo Tokyo Museum – Experience Tokyo through the ages at this fun and interactive museum.

Day 8 – Tokyo

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • Free Day in Tokyo
  • Farewell Dinner & Program Closing

Day 9 – Return

  • Breakfast & Day Briefing
  • End of Program
  • Depart Tokyo, Japan for Home

Program payments

1st Deposit Payment of $400 due December 29th, 2020

2nd Payment of $595 due February 29th, 2021

3rd Payment of $595 due April 29th, 2021

Notes: Airfare is not included in the program; Please wait for confirmation that trip has met the minimum number of participants before purchasing airfare.

Payment Policy: The 1st deposit is refundable up to 100 days prior to departure. If the trip is canceled for not reaching the minimum number of participants the deposit will also be refunded.
