Itinerary
Day 1 – Departure
- Depart Home for Accra, Ghana
Day 2 – Accra
- Arrive in Accra, Ghana
- Airport Transfer – Check-in & Refresh
- Orientation & Cross-Cultural Training – The orientation is designed to give students a brief introduction to their surroundings – contextualizing the country setting and providing information pertinent to the group’s safety and overall experience throughout the program. The Program Facilitator will also provide an outline of the program and discuss the roles and responsibilities expected of the student group while in-country.
- Welcome Dinner – The group will be taken for an authentic African dinner with a wide variety of menu options to cater all diets.
Day 3 – Accra

- Guest Speaker – Special Topic Presentation
- Osu Castle & Independence Square – Built by the Danes around 1659 and originally called Christiansborg Castle, Osu Castle was the seat of government until 2013, when the president and his office moved to Flagstaff House.
- Group Lunch
- Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum – Built on a former British polo field and located in downtown Accra, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and memorial park is dedicated to the first president of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr Kame Nkrumah, who led the campaign towards independence from colonial rule in March 1957.

- Cocoa Farm Visit
- Visit Chief Palace – For this cultural visit, we get an insight into the duties and roles of local traditional chieftains (or monarchs) in the present-day Ghanaian society.

- Kumasi Tour Sites and areas of interest – Ntonso Kente Village, Adinkra village, Manhyia Palace, and Kejetia Market.

- Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Site – Assin Manso was one of the largest slave markets for gathering people to sell into slavery during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans.

- Cape Coast Castle – This castle in Cape Coast, once known as the Gold Coast of West Africa, was one of around 40 “slave castles” that served as prisons and embarkation points for slaves en route to the Americas (the Caribbean, South America, and the U.S.). Thousands of enslaved Africans from regions near and far, sometimes hundreds of miles away, were taken to these castles to be sold to slave ships.
