I have been very pleased with the level of attention that Oklahoma Study Abroad has given to ensure that my group of travelers has a great trip. Christian selects imminently experienced tour guides who immerse us as fully into the culture as possible. A number of repeat travelers confirm that they are satisfied with travels. As a college professor, I’m keen to facilitate a total engagement in the art and culture we are visiting. Oklahoma Study Abroad makes this possible to provide my travelers with a truly authentic experience in international travel.Todd Parker - Assistant Professor Department of Art, Communication & Theatre - Southwestern Oklahoma State University,
Choosing to travel with the Study Abroad Association has been a great decision. Since working with this organization, enrollment in our Study Abroad program has increased substantially. Students enjoy the “feet on the ground” approach, which improves cultural immersion and understanding. Prompt communication, steadfast preparedness, and unlimited enthusiasm make me confident in this company.Brenda Gabioud Brown, Ph.D., Professor of English University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma
Working with Christian Alyea through the Study Aboard Association program has been an efficient and professional experience. The attention to detail in the planning, packing, and execution of the trip as well as responding to the needs of the group and instructors is the one of the defining characteristics that make travel with the Study Abroad Association the best choice. Christian listens to what instructors want and uses his experience and local resources to customize trips to meet the needs of the group. He also takes a personal approach to soothing the fears of first time travelers and their families to ensure a safe and healthy experience. His commitment to service does not waiver from the beginning of the planning process through the completion of the trip. Christian really shines in his ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances with the calm and decorum of a seasoned professional. Having traveled to both European and Latin American destinations with 12+ first time traveling students in tow; I value his commitment as an individual and in vetting talented and dynamic guides that are held to his same rigorous standards. I look forward to traveling with the Study Abroad Association and Christian Alyea specifically in future years as it is always a unique and interdisciplinary experience.Leah Oxenford, MS, IDS Laboratory Instructor, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma
When Christian Alyea first approached Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) in 2009 with the newly founded Study Abroad Association Program, the Modern Language faculty came on board immediately, recognizing the enormous potential for offering our students quality, youth-oriented study abroad opportunities at an affordable price. Since that time OCCC students and faculty have enjoyed a truly rewarding study abroad experience, and the Oklahoma Study Abroad Program has flourished, with five to six different study abroad trips available to OCCC students yearly: Ireland, England, Eastern Europe, Spain, France, Italy, Panama, and Costa Rica.
I had the pleasure of accompanying a group of OCCC students on SAA’s trip to Spain, in 2014, and again in 2015 to France (Paris and Normandy). Both study abroad experiences were well-coordinated, with fantastic support from Christian and his staff! The professional guides went above and beyond to ‘bring to life’ the history and culture of the sites we visited throughout Spain and France.
Christian more than fulfills his commitment to giving participants the tools to travel abroad with confidence, economically, and safely. Students gain the travel skills needed to return on their own in the future, and they experience the target culture first hand, staying at clean, well-run youth hostels and low-cost hotels where they have the opportunity to interact with youth from many cultures and walks of life. With the Study Abroad Association, students learn to travel throughout cities such as Madrid and Paris, smoothly navigating the subways, mass transit and train systems. This Program provides flexibility for the travel group to rearrange tours and other activities to improve the cultural experience and make the most of our time abroad as well.
In all honesty, words are not praise enough the marvelous travel abroad experience provided by the Study Abroad Association! Students have only positive comments for Christian and his overseas staff. The outstanding educational experience accorded OCCC students (and faculty) foments a love and appreciation of the culture and history of the countries visited, and leaves all participants with invaluable memories to cherish for life.E.
